The hop plant – the heart of our natural skincare

It starts in the soil. In the dark, moist earth where the hop plant comes to life every spring. The first shoots break through with a force that feels almost ancient. Then it grows. Winds. Searches for the light.

In late summer it stands there. Tall, green and alive. The cones smell herbal, slightly bitter, with a soft resinous tone that carries something more than just aroma. This is where our natural skincare with hops begins.

A plant we chose to truly get to know

We could have bought a ready-made ingredient. An extract in a bottle. A trendy name. Instead we chose to grow it ourselves.

Our own-grown hops aren't just a raw material, they're a relationship. We follow it through the seasons. See how weather and soil affect it. Smell the scent as the cones ripen. Harvest with respect. When you grow something yourself, something happens. You stop seeing the plant as an ingredient. You start seeing it as a living force. That's the force we want to preserve in our skincare.

The hop plant – more than beer

Most people think of beer when they hear the word hops. And yes, no hops, no beer.

But the hop plant (Humulus lupulus) has a much longer history than that. In monastery gardens and Nordic homes, it was used as a medicinal plant. It was described as calming, balancing and strengthening. What was once traditional knowledge has today become the subject of modern research. Interest in hop extract and its bioactive substances has grown significantly in recent years.

There's something beautiful in that.
When old wisdom meets new science.

The plant's secret lies in the cones. If you open a hop cone and rub it between your fingers, a golden powder sticks to your skin. That's lupulin, the small glands where the plant's most active substances form.

Here you'll find:

  • Bitter compounds like humulone and lupulone
  • Polyphenols and flavonoids
  • Terpenes and essential oils

One of the most studied substances is xanthohumol. A natural flavonoid that has been studied for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties in laboratory settings.

It's important to note: these studies don't apply to finished skincare products and don't mean that skincare with hops treats diseases.

But they show something fascinating. That the hop plant is active, intelligent and protective. It produces its substances to cope with the world around it. Maybe that's exactly why it feels so right for the skin.

Hop extract and skin – an interplay

In our natural skincare with hops, it's not a single molecule that's at the center. It's the whole.

Hops are naturally rich in antioxidants, substances that help protect skin against oxidative stress, one of the factors behind skin aging.

When we work with hop extract, we do it gently. We want to preserve the plant's complexity. Not simplify it. Not reduce it to a trend.

We believe in supporting the skin, not over-treating it.
Working with nature, not against it.

A Nordic plant with deep roots

The hop plant is robust. It withstands our climate. It has grown here for generations. It's part of our landscape, and now part of our bathroom.

For us it symbolizes:

  • Sustainability.
  • Knowledge.
  • Patience.
  • Roots in the soil.

When you use our skincare, you're not just meeting a product. You're meeting a plant that grew in the same soil we stand on.

Plant power in everyday life

There's something calming about applying balm made from something that started as a seed in the ground. Something reassuring about knowing where the raw material comes from. How it was grown. How it was cared for.

For us, natural skincare with hops isn't about quick promises.
It's about slow knowledge. About choosing a plant with history, depth and documented biological activity.

The hop plant has followed humans for thousands of years. Now it gets to follow you in your everyday life.
